Senior Firmware Developer - Industrial Automation Platform (f/m/d)
At our Siemens Foundational Technologies Development Center we are focused on a product development including software development, hardware development, mechanical design, and testing for the next generation concept of Industry 4.0. We are offering cooperation on developing a modular industrial automation solution for field devices. It is designed for standardized use across flow, level, pressure, and temperature measurement applications. You will work closely with experts from software architecture, continuous integration, hardware design, mechanical engineering, and certifications—including international colleagues.
What will be your responsibilities?
- Developing and enhancing firmware components using modern C++ (C++14, C++17) in embedded, resource-constrained environments.
- Improving key software subsystems while integrating with a legacy code base that has evolved over 10+ years and supports 100+ product variants.
- Implementing robust communication protocol integrations (such as HART, PROFIBUS, Modbus, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP).
- Supporting the functional safety development processes, e.g. as FMEDA as a technical lead.
- Troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing performance in functional safety-critical applications while mentoring junior developers and sharing best practices.
- Working in sync with continuous integration processes to support streamlined build automation, testing, and release management initiatives.
What should you possess?
- Good skills in .NET C#, Winforms, MS Test
- Extensive experience as a Senior Developer in embedded firmware development using modern C++ in resource-constrained, functional safety-critical environments.
- A strong background in designing and implementing software solutions, with proficiency in software design techniques such as UML and sequence diagrams.
- Hands-on experience with communication protocols like HART, PROFIBUS, Modbus, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP, coupled with an ability to integrate these protocols within complex systems.
- Experience working with legacy code bases and evolving established systems to meet modern technological and functional safety standards.
- Familiarity with continuous integration, build automation, and configuration management practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and a willingness to mentor and guide junior team members.
- Exposure to functional safety standards, risk analysis techniques, and fault tolerance mechanisms is a plus.
